IPS Weekly Solar and Geophysical Report for 14th to May, issued on 21st May by IPS Radio and Space Services.

Solar flare activity was very low all week.

Geomagnetic activity observed for the Australian region was quiet on 14th and 16th to 18th; mostly quiet with isolated unsettled periods on 15th; and quiet to unsettled on 19th and 20th.

Southern Australian ionospheric F2 critical frequencies were depressed 15 per cent to near predicted on 14th and 19rh; near predicted on 15th; depressed 15 to 20 per cent on 16th; near predicted to 20 per cent enhanced on 17th; near predicted to 25 per cent enhanced on 18th; and near predicted to 30 per cent enhanced ob 20th.

Forecast for 21st to 21st May

Solar activity should be low.

Geomagnetic activity should see quiet to unsettled conditions.

Maximum usable frequencies should be near predicted monthly values.

ARLD020 DX news for 206y May 2010

ANNOBON ISLAND, 3C0. Elmo, EA5BYP and Javier, EA5KM will soon be
QRV as 3C9B from Bioko Island and as 3C0C from Annobon Island, IOTA
AF-039. Activity will be on 160 to 10 meters using CW, SSB and RTTY
with two stations active. QSL via EA7FTR.

MALDIVES, 8Q. Thomas, OE2ATN plans to be QRV as 8Q7AT from Velidhu
Island, IOTA AS-013, from May 23 to June 4. Activity will be mainly
on 80, 40 and 20 meters using SSB. QSL to home call.

CROATIA, 9A. A group of operators will be QRV as 9A0GEO during the
Geoparks Communication Weekend on May 22 and 23 from the Papuk
Geopark. Activity is on 80 to 10 meters. QSL via 9A2MF.

CHILE, CE. Special event station 3G3ITU is QRV until May 31 to
celebrate the 75th anniversary of the International
Telecommunication Union. QSL via CE3AA.

PORTUGAL, CT. Special event station CS2BV will be QRV from the
Belver castle on May 22 and 23. Activity will be on all bands using
CW, SSB and various digital modes. QSL via bureau.

MAYOTTE, FW. Lionel, F5PSL will be QRV as FH8ND beginning May 23.
Activity will be on the HF bands. His length of stay is unknown.

FRENCH GUIANA, FY. Bruno, FJ5IF is now QRV as FY8DK. He is here
for several years. Activity is on the HF bands using mostly SSB.

HUNGARY, HA. Special event station HG30FHA is QRV until the end of
2010 in commemoration of the space flight of the first Hungarian
astronaut, Bertalan Farkas. QSL via bureau.

SARDINIA, IS0. Special callsign IR0LVC will be QRV from Maddalena
Island, IOTA EU-041, from May 22 to June 6 during the upcoming Louis
Vuitton Trophy. Activity is on all HF bands with four stations.

MONGOLIA, JT. Vasiliy, RW9YW will be QRV as JT9YW from May 25 to
June 2. QSL direct to home call.

SVALBARD, JW. Operators LA5YI, LA6XI and LA1YM will be QRV as
JW5YI, JW6XI and JW1YM, respectively, from Longyearbyen, IOTA
EU-026, on May 23, 25 and 26. Activity will be on 40, 30 and 20
meters, and 60 meters, using CW and SSB. QSL to home calls.

ARGENTINA, LU. Members of the Radio Club Ushuaia will be QRV as
LU8XW from May 22 to 24 from Tolhuin in celebration of the club's
25th anniversary. Activity will be on the HF bands and satellites
using CW, SSB, RTTY and PSK. QSL via WD9EWK.

SWEDEN, SM. A group of operators are QRV as 7S6W from Vinga Island,
IOTA EU-043, until May 23. Activity is on the HF bands using CW,
SSB and RTTY with four stations active. QSL via operators'
instructions.

TURKEY, TA. A group of operators are QRV as TC1HLH from the Hoskoy
Lighthouse until May 23. Activity is on the HF bands using SSB and
PSK. QSL via operators' instructions.

BELIZE, V3. Mike, VE2XB will be QRV as V31XB from Caye Caulker,
IOTA NA-073, from May 25 to June 14. Activity will be on all HF
bands, including 6 meters, using CW and SSB. QSL to home call.

LORD HOWE ISLAND, VK9L. Tomas, VK2CCC will be QRV as VK9LL from May
24 to 31. Activity will be on the HF bands. This includes an entry
in the upcoming CQ WPX CW contest with an emphasis on 160 and 80
meters. QSL direct to home call.

PRINCE EDWARD AND MARION ISLAND, ZS8. Pierre, ZS1HF is now QRV as
ZS8M from Marion Island, IOTA AF-021. Activity of late has been on
40, 20 and 17 meters using SSB. He plans to be active using
digital modes soon. QSL direct via ZS1X.

THIS WEEKEND ON THE RADIO. The NCCC Sprint CW Ladder, Slobozhansky
Sprint Contest, EU BPSK63 DX Contest, UN DX Contest and Baltic
Contest are all on tap for this weekend. The SKCC CW Sprint is
scheduled for May 26.

their 24-31 July activity from  Senegal  [425DXN  993].  They  will
operate SSB, CW and RTTY on 160-6 metres with three  stations.  QSL

8Q     - Thomas,  OE2ATN  (www.oe2atn.at)  will  be  active  as  8Q7AT  from

9A     - 9A2MF, 9A2WJ, 9A6AA and 9A6NDD will be active as 9A0GEO during  the
3rd  Geoparks  Communication  Weekend  (22-23  May)  from    Papuk,
Croatia's  first  Geopark.  They  plan  to  operate    SSB    (main
frequencies 3680, 7080, 14180, 21180 and 28180 kHz), CW and  PSK31.

BY    -  Celebrating  the  90th  anniversary  of  the  Harbin  Institute  of

F      - Commemorating   the  70th  anniversary  of  Operation  Dynamo  (the
evacuation of nearly 340,000 Allied  soldiers  from the beaches and
harbour of  Dunkerque, 26 May-4 June 1940), special callsign  TM70D
will be in use from Dunkerque until 31 May. QSL via F6KMB.
FH     - Lionel, F5PSL will be active as FH8ND from  Mayotte  (AF-027)  from
23 May until 15 August. He plans to operate  SSB  on  80-6  metres.

GW     - Adrian/M3TVF,  Mark/M0MTT  and  Adrian/MW0ZEN  will  be  active  as
GB0FHI from Flat Holm Island (EU-124) on 29 and 30 May.  They  will
be QRV from 10am to midnight each day. Expect them to  operate  SSB

HA     - Launched into space on 26 May 1980, Bertalan Farkas was  the  first
Hungarian cosmonaut. Commemorating the  30th  anniversary  of  that
flight, special event station  HG30FHA  will  be  active  until  31

I      - Alessandro IK4ALM,  Lorenzo  IK6PTH  and  Roberto  IK6QRH  will  be
active from Scoglio La vela (not IOTA, IIA AN-001) and  Scoglio  Le

I      - Special event station II1IAFZ will be active from 8 UTC on  29  May
until 13 UTC on the 30th during a reunion of  former  crew  members

I     -  Look  for  ID9/IT9EJP,  ID9/IT9ZIR,   ID9/IT9ZZO,  ID9/IW9FRB   and
ID9/IW9HSK to be active from Stromboli Island (EU-017, IIA  ME-016)
between 29 May and 2 June. They will operate SSB, RTTY and BPSK  on

JT     - Look for JT0YAB (UA9YAB), JT0YW (RW9YW) and JT0YPS (UA9YPS)  to  be
active from Lake Khoton, Altai Tavan Bogd  National  Park  (western
Mongolia) on 3-8 June. They plan to operate on all bands and  modes

Longyearbyen (EU-026), Svalbard on 23,  25  and  26  May.  Activity

PJ2    - Jim, WI9WI will be active as PJ2/WI9WI (QSL  via  home  call)  from
Signal Point on Curacao (SA-006) between 23  May  and  2  June.  He
plans to take part in the CQ WW WPX CW Contest  as  PJ2T  (QSL  via

TA     - The TC  Special  Wireless  Activity Team  (www.tcswat.org)  will be
active as TC1HLH Hoskoy Lighthouse (Sea of Marmara)  on  21-23 May.
They plan to operate mainly on 20 and 40 metres SSB. [TNX TA1HZ]
V2     - Darrell, AB2E will be active again as V26E  from  Antigua  (NA-100)
on 27-31 May, including a SOAB entry in the CQ WW WPX  CW  Contest.
Outside the WPX event, he will concentrate on 12, 17 and 30  metres

V3     - Mike, VE2XB will be active as V31XB  from  Caye  Caulker  (NA-073),
Belize from 25 May to 14 June. He will operate CW and  SSB  on  all

VK9L   - Tomas, VK2CCC (LY1F) will be active as VK9LL from Lord Howe  Island
(OC-004) on 24-31 May, CQ WW WPX CW Contest included. He  plans  to
concentrate on 160 and 80 metres CW, operating in his  spare  time.
"Higher bands are  possible  should  there  be  no  propagation  on
80m/160m", he says, while "SSB and  digital  modes  are  unlikely".

YN     - Eric, K9GY will once again be active as  YN2GY  from  Nicaragua  on

KENYA ---> The Communications Commission of Kenya has approved  the  use  of
the sub-band 7100 kHz to 7200 kHz by amateur radio operators in Kenya.

VK4FW ---> Bill Horner, VK4FW would like to make it  known  that  "currently
has no Internet capability, including e-mail address. Therefore  any  emails
will bounce. He should be operational with a new ISP within 10  days".  [TNX

WRTC 2010 ---> The WRTC-2010 Organizing Committee has  announced  a  special
awards and  prizes  programme  to  encourage  the  amateur  radio  community
worldwide to make contacts with WRTC-2010 participants during  the  IARU  HF
Championship  (10-11  July).   Complete    details    can    be    found  at
www.wrtc2010.ru. All WRTC stations will use distinctive callsigns  from  the
block R30A-R39Z; the list of callsigns will be published  on  the  WRTC  web
site one day before the contest.
