IPS Weekly Solar and Geophysical Report for 22nd to 28th January 2010, issued on 29th January by IPS Radio and Space Services.

Solar flare activity was very low all week.

Geomagnetic activity observed for the Australian region was quiet on 22d and 23rd; quiet to unsettled on 24th; quiet on 25th to 28th except for high latitudes where activity was quiet to unsettled.

Southern Australian ionospheric F2 critical frequencies were near predicted on 22nd to 24th, and 28th; near predicted to 25 per cent depressed on 25th; near predicted to 15 per cent enhanced, with scattered occasional depressions to 25 per cent on 26th; and near predicted to 30 per cent enhanced on 27th. Sporadic E was reported on 25th to 28th, with night-time Spread F reported from some sites on 25th and 27th.

Forecast for 29th January to 4th February

Solar activity should be low.

Geomagnetic activity should see quiet to unsettled conditions.

Maximum usable frequencies should be near predicted monthly values, with possible occasional depressions.

ARLD004 DX news for 28th January 2010

MALAWI, 7Q. Harry, G0JMU is QRV as 7Q7HB for the next three months.
He is active on the HF bands using CW and digital modes. QSL direct
via G0IAS.

SOUTH SHETLAND ISLANDS. Operators Luis, XQ5CIE, Carlos, CE6UFF,
Didier, F6DXE and Dagoberto, CE5COX will be QRV as XR9JA from the
Chilean naval base "Arturo Prat" on Greenwich Island, IOTA AN-010,
from February 1 to 8. Activity will be on 160 to 6 meters using CW,
SSB and PSK31 and satellite activity on AO-51. QSL via CE5JA.

BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA, E7. Mario, DJ2MX is QRV as E73DX until
February 1. Activity is on 160 to 10 meters using CW and SSB. He
will be active with a group of operators as E7DX in the CQ WW
160-Meter CW contest. QSL E73DX via DJ2MX and E7DX via E77E.

SPAIN, EA. A group of operators will be QRV as ED5M from the Sant
Antoni Cape Lighthouse in the CQ WW 160-Meter CW contest. During
their off-contest periods they will be active using SSB on 160

CANARY ISLANDS, EA8. Klaus, DK1AX will be QRV as EA8/homecall from
Tenerife, IOTA AF-004, from February 2 to 14. Activity will be
holiday style on 40 to 15 meters using CW with QRP power near the
usual QRP frequencies. QSL to home call.

MARTINIQUE, FM. Michel, FM5CD has been QRV using RTTY on 160 meters
around 0500z. QSL via FM5VU.

AUSTRAL ISLANDS, FO. A group of operators are QRV as TX3D from
Raivavae Island, IOTA OC-114, until February 4. Activity is mainly
on 160 to 30 meters, and possibly the higher bands, using CW, SSB
and RTTY. QSL via DL1AWI.

SCOTLAND, GM. Look for MM0DGR/p to be QRV from the Clyde Valley
Woodlands National Nature Reserve on January 30. Activity will be
on 40, 30 and 20 meters using CW, SSB and PSK. QSL via MM0DFV.

HUNGARY, HA. Special event station HG0WFF is QRV from the Hortobagy
National Park until January 30. Activity is on 80 to 17 meters as
propagation permits using mostly CW with some SSB. QSL via HA0HW.

ST. LUCIA, J6. Operators Budd, W3FF, Chris, W6HFP, Scott, NE1RD,
Dan, WZ1P, Guy, N7UN, Steve, WG0AT, Mike, KC4VG, Paul, KB9AVO and
Wey, K8EAB will be QRV as J6/homecalls from February 2 to 11.
Activity will be on 160 to 15 meters using CW, SSB and digital modes
and 10 and 6 meters if conditions permit. QSL to home calls.

MARIANA ISLAND, KH0. Mega, JA3EGZ will be QRV as KH0/homecall from
Saipan, IOTA OC-086, from February 3 to 8. Activity will be mainly
on 80 and 40 meters. QSL to home call.

US VIRGIN ISLANDS, KP2. Art, KZ5D will be QRV as KP2/homecall from
St. Croix, IOTA NA-106, from February 2 to 9. Activity will be on
the HF bands. This includes an entry in the upcoming FOC Marathon.

BELGIUM, ON. Members of the European Union Amateur Radio Club will
be QRV as OR5EU in the UBA SSB contest. QSL via bureau.

ICELAND, TF. Yuri, K3BU will be QRV as TF4X from Otradalur in the
CQ WW 160-Meter CW contest as a Single Op/High Power entry. QSL via

BELIZE, V3. Robert, N7MSU will be QRV as V31SU from various
locations here from February 4 to 23. Activity will be mainly on 40
and 20 meters using CW and SSB. QSL to home call.

NORFOLK ISLAND, VK9N. Andrew, VK2ACC will be QRV as VK2ACC/9 from
February 4 to 9. Activity will be holiday style on 40 to 6 meters
using SSB and possibly PSK. QSL to home call.

BERMUDA, VP9. Seppo, OH1VR is QRV as VP9/homecall until February 2.
Activity is on the HF bands using mainly CW. This includes being a
Single Op entry in the CQ WW 160-Meter CW contest. QSL to home

Activity is on 160 to 15 meters using mainly CW. He will be a

The Ohio/Penn DX Bulletin No. 944 - excerpts

5I, TANZANIA
Igor, UA3DJY, is once again back in Dar Es Salaam, and is operating from the DIT
Communications Club station, 5I3A, until March 1st. He will try to be active on
all bands. This past weekend Igor was on 40/20/15 meters CW and 17/15 meters
SSB. QSL via RK3AOL.

5I, TANZANIA
After the Tonga operation as A35HA and his Falkland Island operation as VP8BUH,
Uruguayan globetrotter Bert, CX3AN, will visit Tanzania during the first 2 weeks
of February. Look for him on the bands, joined by Igor/UA3DJY and Paul/5H3PF to
activate the Dar Es Salaam's Institute of Technology (DIT) radio club station
5I3A. Activity will be mostly SSB and CW using a FT-1000 MP and a log periodic
between 20-10 meters.

6V7, SENEGAL
Luc, F5RAV, will be active from La Somone between February 18th and March 1st.
He will operate from Jean-Francois, 6W7RV, QTH as 6W7RV. QSL via only direct to
his home callsign.

AO1, SPAIN (Special Event)
Spanish operators will activate the special callsign AO1ANT between February
22-28th. Activity is to celebrate the international event "Seventh Antarctic
Week". Their reference number will be WAP-180 and their activity will be on SSB,
CW, PSK31 and RTTY modes, using all the amateur bands from 160-10 meters.
Operators mentioned are: Javier/EC1KV, Daniel/EB1LA, Jose/EA1CUB, Jose/EA1CS,

C6, BAHAMAS (Correction)
Operators Bob/N4BP (C6AKQ), Mike/K4RUM (C6AUM) and Tim/N4UM (C6ARU) will be in
Freeport, Lucaya, Bahamas, beginning Monday, February 15th, with Kevin/K4PG
(C6APG) joining them on Thursday, February 18th. The operators will enter the
ARRL International DX CW Contest (February 20-21st) as individual entries
(Bob/C6AKQ on 80 meters, Kevin/C6APG on 40 meters and Mike/C6AUM possibly on 160
meters. Tim will announce his entry when he knows). Prior to the contest they
will be operating on the 30/17/12 meter bands, HF bands using CW and the Digital
modes. QSL direct to their home callsigns with SASE and/or LoTW.

DR2010, GERMANY
To celebrate "Essen und das Ruhrgebit European Capital of Culture 2010", look
for the following special event stations to be on the air through the end of the

FO/A, AUSTRAL ISLANDS (Update/New Callsign/IOTA Op)
German operators Wulf/DL1AWI, Peter/DL3APO and Mat/DL5XU should be active by the
time you read this as TX3D from Raivavae Island (OC-114, DIFO FO-122, WLOTA
L-2581) in the Austral Islands group. Activity will last through February 4th.
When the team arrived on January 19th, they only had 50% of their baggage.
However, by Saturday, January 23rd, the team received the rest of their
equipment and baggage. Remember that their focus will be mainly the lower bands
160-30 meters but will work some higher bands on SSB and RTTY. QSL via TX3D via
DL1AWI and FO/DL3APO via DL3APO. Send QSLs direct or by the Bureau. Direct QSLs
must have one IRC (new) or two USDs in order to cover the postage. They will

IOTA NEWS

NA-079. (Update) Members of the Amateur Radio Outdoor Adventures, Inc., will be
activating Grid Square EL84, March 11-15. Activity will be from Fort Jefferson,
Garden Key in the Dry Tortugas (USI FL-013S, USA-316, Monroe County, Florida) 72
miles west of Key West. Team members are: Mike/AC2V, Dave/N2NL, Chris/ KN3ZIG,
Pete/AI4QY, Gary/K4MF, Max/KJ4EUT, Dan/W4UH, Pete/ WD4IXD, Fred/K9VV,
Vick/WA0USA, Zoli/HA1AG and Jennifer LeSueur. Activity will be on HF, Satellite

KH2, GUAM (OC-026)
Look for members of TIARA (Tokyo International Amateur Radio Association) to
once again be active as homecall/KH2 between February 25th and March 1st.

Toshio/KG6WTW. Activity will be on all HF bands. They will mainly be looking for

KP2, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS
Jeff, VA3QSL, will be active as KP2/VA3QSL from St. Thomas (NA-106, USI VI004S)
and St. Croix (NA-106, USI VI002S, WLOTA LH-2477) between February 6-14th. His
activity will be "vacation style" on or near the IOTA frequencies on 40-15
meters using CW, SSB and PSK. QSL to his home callsign, direct or by the Bureau.

OR4, ANTARCTICA
Karel's, OR4TN, stay at the Princess Elisabeth Station in the Antarctica has
been extended now until February 25th. His license was only valid until end of
January. Thanks to the concerned authority in Belgium for their very fast
reaction, the OR4TN license has now been extended also to the end of February

PZ, SURINAME
Peter, PA1LP, will be active as PZ5LP from Nieuw Nickerie between February 26th

SI9, SWEDEN (Special Event)
Special event station SI9AM from the King Chulalongkorn Memorial in Utanede,
Sweden, the largest Thai Pavilion in the world outside Thailand, will be active
between February 5-6th, (from 1700-1400z). Operators will be Jan/SM3CER and
Jorgen/SM3FJF. The activity is to celebrate the 10th anniversary of SI9AM. They
plan to operate on 80-17 meters using CW and SSB. QSL via SM3CVM, direct or by

V3, BELIZE (Update)
Art, NN7A, will be active as V31JZ/p from Turneffe Islands (NA-123) between
February 24th and March 3rd. Activity will be holiday style from a cottage on
the beach using generator power. His operation will be mostly CW on 40-17 meters (including 30/17/12m), with some 160/80 meters and some ssb on 20/15 meters on the usual IOTA frequencies if possible, conditions permitting. Equipment will be a 100 watt transceiver with vertical and wire antennas.

VK9N, NORFOLK ISLAND (OC-005)
Andrew, VK2ACC, will be active as VK2ACC/9 between February 4­9th. Activity will
be holiday style on 40­6 meters using SSB and possibly PSK. He will operate with
only 100 watts into a Buddipole and end-fed wire. QSL via his home callsign, by

VP2, MONTSERRAT (NA-103)
Nick, G4FAL, will be active as VP2MCC between March 10-17th. Activity will be on
80-10 meters using CW and possibly on 160m (grayline to EU on March 15th or
