More CubeSats in Orbit: Early Thursday morning (UTC), an Indian PSLV-C14 rocket carried the Oceansat-2 satellite <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oceansat-2> to orbit, along with four CubeSats and two RubinSats. The RubinSats are 8 kg research modules that will remain attached to the PSLV-C14 booster. CubeSats are very small satellites, typically only a few inches on each side. As they are a
relatively inexpensive research spacecraft, they've become increasingly popular with university science programs. A number of CubeSats use Amateur Radio frequencies to downlink telemetry, as is the case with this latest group. Early reports indicate that all of the CubeSats are active. Solar flare activity was very low all week.
Geomagnetic activity observed for the Australian region was quiet with unsettled periods at high latitudes on 18th to 20th; quiet to unsettled on 21st; and quiet on 22nd to 24th.
Southern Australian Ionospheric F2 critical frequencies were near predicted on 18th with occasional depressions to 25 per cent; near predicted to 40 per cent enhanced on 19th; near predicted to 60 per cent enhanced on 20th; mostly near predicted on 21st, 23rd and 24th; and near predicted on 22nd.
Forecast for 25th September to 1st October
Very low solar activity is expected for the forecast period. Current active regions have a small chance of producing a C-class event.
Geomagnetic activity should see mostly quiet to unsettled conditions. Unsettled
conditions are forecast for 26th with possible active periods due to recurrent coronal hole effects.
Maximum usable frequencies should be near predicted monthly values for mid to high latitudes. Depressions of 20 per cent are expected for low latitudes. Disturbed conditions are possible for high latitudes due to increased geomagnetic activity 26th and 27th.

CONWAY REEF, 3D2. A group of operators will be QRV as 3D20CR
beginning around October 1. Activity will be on 160 to 6 meters
using CW, SSB and RTTY, with a 6-meter beacon at 50124 kHz. QSL via
DJ8NK.
TIMOR-LESTE, 4W. Al, 4W6AL is QRV until October 3. Activity is
mostly on 40, 30 and 20 meters. QSL via CT1GFK.
CYPRUS, 5B. Gab, HA3JB is QRV as 5B/HG3IPA until October 2. This
includes being an entry in the CQ WW RTTY contest. QSL to home
call.
MALAWI, 7Q. Barrie, G4AHK is QRV as 7Q7BJ until October 12.
Activity is mainly on 160, 80 and 40 meters. QSL to home call.
CANARY ISLANDS, EA8. Val, RD3AF will be QRV as EF8M from Santa
Maria de Guia, IOTA AF-004, in the CQ WW RTTY contest. QSL via
UA3DX.
AUSTRAL ISLANDS, FO. A group of operators will be QRV as TX5SPA
from Tubuai, IOTA OC-153, from September 29 to October 12. Activity
will be on 160 to 10 meters using CW, SSB, RTTY and possibly PSK31
with three stations active. QSL via SP9PT.
ST. LUCIA, J6. Bill, WB5ZAM plans to be QRV as J68WI from September
28 to October 11. He will be active on all HF bands using CW and
SSB. He may to be to active on 160 meters as well. QSL to home
call.
DOMINICA, J7. Babs, DL7AFS and Lot, DJ7ZG will be QRV as J79ZG near
Calibishie from September 27 to October 15. Activity will be on 80
to 6 meters using mainly RTTY and PSK, but with some CW and SSB as
well. QSL via DL7AFS.
SVALBARD, JW. Operators LA9DL, LA6VM and LA7XK will be QRV as JW5X
in the SAC SSB contest from Longyearbyen, IOTA EU-026. Before and
after the contest they will be QRV as JW9DL, JW6VM and JW7XK,
respectively. Activity is on all HF bands using CW, SSB, RTTY and
PSK31. QSL JW5X via LA5X and all others to home calls.
LUXEMBOURG, LX. A group of operators will be QRV as LX7I in the CQ
WW RTTY Contest as a Multi-2 entry. QSL via LX2A.
LEBANON, OD. Special event station OD5F will be QRV from September
27 to October 6 from the Village Francophone at the university of
Hadath during the Francophone Games. QSL via operators'
instructions.
ALAND ISLAND, OH0. Tomi, OH6EI will be QRV from Mariehamn as OH0Z
in the SAC SSB Contest. QSL via W0MM.
MARKET REEF, OJ0. A group of operators will be QRV as OJ0B in the
SAC SSB contest. In addition, they will be active as OJ0J primarily
on the newer bands before the contest. QSL OJ0B via OH2BH and OJ0J
via OH0RJ.
GREECE, SV. A group of operators will be QRV as SY1RY in the CQ WW
RTTY contest. QSL via SV1JMO.
COSTA RICA, TI. Operators WW4LL and NP3D are QRV as TI5/home calls
until September 28. Activity is on all bands using mostly RTTY with
some CW and SSB. In addition, they will be entries in the CQ WW
RTTY contest on 20 and 40 meters, respectively. QSL direct to home
calls.
ROMANIA, YO. Special event station YR550BU is QRV until October 5
in celebration of the 550 years since the first mention in writing
of the capital city of Bucharest. Activity is on 80 to 10 meters.

MACEDONIA, Z3. Look for Z37M to be an entry in the CQ WW RTTY
contest. QSL via bureau.
OPERATIONS APPROVED FOR DXCC CREDIT. The following operations are
approved for DXCC credit: Chesterfield Island, TX3A, 2009
operation; Afghanistan, T6AB, 2008 and 2009 operations; Afghanistan,
T6AF, current operation.
THIS WEEKEND ON THE RADIO. The CQ Worldwide RTTY DX Contest, NCCC
Sprint, Scandinavian Activity SSB Contest, Texas QSO Party, AGCW
VHF/UHF Contest and UBA ON 6-Meter Contest are all scheduled for
this weekend. The QRP Homebrewer Sprint is scheduled for September
28. The 222 MHz Fall Sprint is scheduled for September 29.

The Ohio/Penn DX Bulletin No. 926 - excerpts
3D2/C, CONWAY REEF (Update)
Jan, DJ8NK, informs OPDX this past week "all is prepared for our DXpedition to
Conway Reef (3D20CR), the rigs, antennas and gear are all packed and a
pre-shipment by air will leave Hamburg tomorrow (September 15th). The crew will
fly out on September 24th, and we plan to start operation on October 1st." The
DXpedition is still looking for sponsors. The total amount of the operation is

Barrie, G4AHK, will once again be active as 7Q7BJ between September 23rd and
October 12th. Activity will be on all HF bands, mainly CW and SSB. QSL via his

7Q, MALAWI
Ely, IN3VZE, informs OPDX that he will be active once again as 7Q7CE from the
southwest shore of Lake Malawi from the shack of his good friend Harry, 7Q7HB,
between October 2-20th. Activity will be holiday style with planned operations
on all bands using SSB and RTTY. QSL via his home callsign, direct or by the
Bureau.
A5, BHUTAN
Yasuo, JA1FJJ, will be active as A52FJJ between October 8-20th. Activity will be
on 80-10 meters using SSB, RTTY and PSK31. He plans to use 500 watts into a G5RV

ALASKA IOTA OP
Hugh, K6HFA, announced that he hopes to activate the following IOTA groups:
NA-236 - (New) Sanak Islands
NA-222 - South Alaska Peninsula West Group
NA-216 - North Alaska Peninsula West Group
NA-087 - Shumagin Islands
He plans to be in the area between September 21st and October 5th. Callsign will
be K7A. Activity will be on 40/30/20 meters using CW and SSB. QSL via K6HFA.
C9, MOZAMBIQUE
Marco, IK1RAE, will be active as C91VM between October 5-23rd. Activity will be
on 40-10 meters using SSB and running 100 watts into a vertical. Marco plans (if
possible) to activate IOTA groups AF-061, AF-066, AF-072 and AF-088. QSL only
direct.

FO8, FRENCH POLYNESIA (Update)
Phil, F5PHW, who will be in Tahiti for the next two years (see OPDX.920 and
OPDX.921) and active as FO8RZ, has reported that he has installed the 160 meter
kit on his HF6V antenna. It is suggested to start looking for him on 160m. Over
the past week Phil has been on 40/30/20 meters CW, with some RTTY. QSL via LoTW.
QSL is also 'OK' via F8BPN, either direct or via the French Ref-Union Bureau.
FT/G, GLORIOSO ISLAND (Update)
The FT5GA team is now active. The team had some antenna problems at first due to
windy weather conditions and a faulty contact on a WARC Spiderbeam (which was
fixed). Indications seem that all three stations are now on the air. Most
stateside stations report that the FT5GA signals are very weak and propagation
is not helping. Activity has been on all bands and the CW/SSB modes with some
RTTY. Operations will last until October 5th, per the Web page at:

VC, CANADA (Special Event)
Look for OPP officer Bob Cooke/VE3BDB and other current or retired uniform or
civilian members of the OPP, to activate the special callsign VC3COPP between
October 2-31st. Activity is to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Ontario
Provincial Police Force (OPP). Since its formation on October 13, 1909, the OPP
has grown to become one of the largest deployed police forces in North America.
Activity will be on the HF bands, possibly 6 meters, and using CW and SSB. QSL

YR550, ROMANIA (Special Event)
Members of the Romanian Society of Radio Amateurs will activate the special
callsign YR550BU between September 18th and October 5th. According to the
"Societatii Romane a Radioamatorilor" (SRR - Romanian Society of Radio Amateurs)
Web page, activity is to celebrate the 550th anniversary of the first written
mention of "Bucharest", the capital city of Romania. SRR states, "Bucharest was
mentioned by Vlad Tepes (a.k.a "Vlad - Dracul") in a donation receipe issued at
20th of September, 1459. Vlad Tepes is the character that inspired Bram Stoker's
'Dracula'." The Romanian Society of Radio Amateurs will issue a special QSL card
for this occasion. Look for activity on the HF bands, 80-10m. For more
