IPS Weekly Solar and Geophysical Report for 3rd to 9th July, issued on 10th July by IPS Radio and Space Services.

Solar flare activity was low 5th and 6th; otherwise very low over the period.

Geomagnetic activity observed for the Australian region was quiet throughout.

Southern Australian ionospheric F2 critical frequencies were near predicted on 3rd to 5th, and 9th; near predicted to 15 per cent enhanced on 6th; mostly near predicted on 7th; and near predicted to 30 per cent enhanced on 8th.

Forecast for 10th to 16th July.

Solar activity should be very low.

Geomagnetic activity could see quiet to unsettled conditions.

Frequencies should be near predicted monthly values.

ARLD027 DX news for 9th July 2009

LIECHTENSTEIN, HB0. Alain, F5LMJ, will be QRV from July 11 to 24.
He plans to work as HB0/F5LMJ/p in CW and digital modes during his
evening and early morning hours. QSL via F5LMJ, bureau or LoTW.

MONTSERRAT, VP2M. Bill, W5SJ, will be active as VP2MSJ from July 14
to 21. He can use the shack of VP2MDD and will take part in the
CQWW VHF Contest but will also be on the other bands, especially 30
and 60 meters. QSL via W5JAY.

CUBA, CO. The Cuba DX Group (GDXC) will activate the call sign T40C
during the upcoming IARU HF World Championship 2009 as a
multi/single, mixed mode entry. QSL via N1KI.

TIMOR-LESTE, 4W. Chris, 4W6FR, is QRV as time permits. Look for
him on 20 and 17 meters using PSK. Most of his activity takes place
between 0900 and 1300z. QSL via VK4FW, direct or the OQRS at

TOGO, 5V. Franco, I1FQH, will be active as 5V7PRF between July 22
and 30. This will be a very light DXpedition with activity on 80
through 10 meters using mostly CW and some SSB. QSL via I1FQH,
LoTW, eQSL or the bureau.

SOUTH KOREA, HL. Jerry, N4EO, will be QRV as HL9EO from Yongsan
Barracks through mid-September as his work duties permit. Look for
him on 20 meters and higher with a concentration on CW and PSK. QSL
direct to N4EO.

ST. LUCIA, J6. WB4WXE (V26HS), will be QRV as J6/WB4WXE from July
10 to 20. Look for him mostly on 6 meters running 350 watts into a
6 element beam. When there is no activity, or propagation on 50
MHz, he'll try 17 meters and possibly some other HF bands. QSL via
WB4WXE.

CROATIA, 9A. Zik, VE3ZIK (DO7ZZ), will be active as 9A/VE3ZIK from
Bilice between July 2 and August 3. Activity will be on the HF
bands using CW, SSB and digital modes. He will also participate in
the RSGB IOTA Contest from IOTA group EU-170. QSL via DO7ZZ, direct
or bureau.

URUGUAY, CX. The members of the Radio Club Uruguayo will be active
as CX1AA during the IARU CONTEST. Activity will be on 160 through
10 meters using CW and SSB with two stations on each band, one
station on CW and the another on SSB. QSL via W3HNK.

MOBILE TOUR, Europe. Jurij, MM0DFV, started a 7000 km mobile tour
on July 7. The route is: Scotland (MM0DFV/m), England (M0DFV/m),
France F/MM0DFV/m), Belgium (ON/MM0DFV/m), Germany (DL/MM0DFV/m),
Poland (SP/MM0DFV/m), Belarus (call sign yet unknown, Russia (call
sign yet unknown), Kazakhstan, (call sign yet unknown). His
emphasis will be on PSK. Separate QSLs for each location will be
printed.

ARUBA, P4. Operators Bob, W3BTX (P49T) and Roy, W3TEF (P4/W3TEF)
will activate P41USA over the anniversary date of the attacks on the
USA on September 11, 2001. Look for activity on all bands between
September 8 and 17, including the September VHF Contest. QSL via
W3TEF.

MALDIVES, 8Q7. IK2AHG, Davide, is QRV through July 19 mostly on CW
as 8Q7DI from Maayafushi Island, (AS-013). QSL via I8ACB. Pierre,
8Q7QQ, home call HB9QQ, is active until July 11. He looks for
Sporadic E and EME contacts on 50183 kHz, JT65A mode (first period)
at his moonrise and moonset. He is also active on 30, 17 and 12
meters. QSL to home call.

ISLE OF MAN, MD. A team of German ops will be QRV until July 13.
Look for MD/DK1SG, MD/DG7SF, MD/DH1SBB, MD/DG1SBU, MD/DG3SHD,
MD/DG5SBK, MD/DL1SPH, MD/DL8SAD, MD/DC5SAN and MD/DL6SBN to be QRV
on 160 through 10 meters using SSB, CW, RTTY and PSK. During the
IARU Contest they will use special call MD9Y. The operators will be
QRV on or near the usual IOTA frequencies. QSLs for MD9Y should go
via GD3YUM. QSL all others via their home calls.

INDONESIA, YC0. Hotang, YC0IEM, will be active as YC0IEM/9 from
Bali (OC-022) until July 27. QSL via IZ8CCW.

CANADA, VE. Gregg, VE3ZZ and Noel, VE2BR will be QRV from Prince
Edward Island from July 15 to 27 using the VY2TT superstation and
signing VE3ZZ/VY2 and VE2BR/VY2. They will be active as VY2Z during
the IOTA contest. QSL to home calls, direct or via the bureau.

MADEIRA ISLAND, CT3. CT9/DK7TM, CT9/DB2TR, CT9/DL1CW, CT9/DL1SBF
and CT9/DL3ZH will be active using CW, SSB and RTTY from July 10 to
15. They also plan to take part in the IARU HF World Championship.
QSL cards should be sent via the bureau to their home calls.

ST PIERRE AND MIQUELON, FP. FP/K9OT and FP/KB9LIE will be QRV on
160 through 10 meters from July 10 to 18, using CW and SSB,
including an entry in the IARU Contest. QSL to home calls via the
bureau or LoTW.

THIS WEEKEND ON THE RADIO. The IARU HF World Championship, FISTS
Summer Sprint and QRP ARCI Summer Homebrew are on tap for this
weekend.

The Ohio/Penn DX Bulletin No. 915 - excerpts

4W, TIMOR-LESTE
Chris, 4W6FR, works for the Australian Armed Forces and is stationed in
Timor-Leste periodically. He has finally been given permission to operate and
has his license in hand now. He has begun operating but only operates as time
permits outside of his work hours. It seems he really likes working PSK,
especially on 20 and 17 meters. There has been some QSNs reported on 20 meters
SSB. Most of his activity takes place between 0900-1300z. QSL via VK4FW, direct

5V, TOGO
Franco, I1FQH, will be active as 5V7PRF from Kpalime between July 22-30th. This
will be a very light DXpedition with activity on 80-10 meters using mostly CW
and some SSB (no Digital modes or 6m). He will use 100 watts into a Spiderbeam
for 20/17/15m as well as a vertical and wire dipoles for the other bands. QSL

7P, LESOTHO (Update)
A group of international operators will be operating from Lesotho starting July
29th through August 13th. They will be operating with the equipment supplied by
African DX Safari in Johannesburg. The following operators will be on the air:
Dr. Gasper "Pista" Istvan/HA5AO (7P8AO), Ben Pyfer/DJ0YI (7P8YI), Laurent
Thomin/W0MM (7P8MM), John Plenderleith/9M6XRO (7P8OK) and Charles "Frosty"
Frost/K5LBU (7P8CF). They will have 2 stations on most of the time and might
have a 3rd for PSK and RTTY.
Activity will be on all bands and they hope to work as many of you on 160/80
meters. They will have a 70 foot vertical which works great on those bands. For
40, they will have a 4 sq. dipole setup on one of the towers. Two trailers with
towers will have Tennadayne T8 LogP antennas at about 55 feet. For 30 meters a
sloper off one tower will be used. Also, a M2 6 meter beam will be up as well.
QSL via each operator's own home callsign except for 9M6XRO/7P8OK who is via
M0URX in the UK.
9A, CROATICA
Zik, VE3ZIK (DO7ZZ) will once again be active as 9A/VE3ZIK from Bilice between
July 2nd and August 3rd. Activity will be on the HF bands using CW, SSB and
digital modes. He will also participate in the RSGB IOTA Contest from IOTA group
EU-170. QSL via DO7ZZ, direct or by the bureau (E-mail requests for Bureau QSL
cards can be sent to Zik via zibert@t-online.de ). Logs will be uploaded to eQSL
and LoTW.

IOTA NEWS

EU-047. Andy, DL7AT, will be active as DL7AT/M from Norderney Island (N-05 for
the German Islands award), July 17-24th. He will also activate the Norderney
lighthouse (ARLHS FED-025, GLHA #39, WLH DL-021, WLOTA 1621). QSL via his home
callsign, direct or by the bureau.

EU-090. A group of Slovenian operators will be active as 9A8ZRS from Vela
Palagruza Island (ACIA IC-901, CIA-33, IOCA CI-084, MIA MC-284, ARLHS CRO-012,
CLH-100, WHL 9A-046, WLOTA 0057) between July 20-31st. Activity will be on
80/40/20/15/10/6/2 meters using CW, SSB, PSK-31 and possibly other digital
modes. Their operations will include an entry in the RSGB IOTA Contest (July
25-26th). Operators mentioned are: Jane/S57L, Goran/S52P, Vinko/S53F,
Brane/S56UGB and Silvo/S50X. QSL via the operator's instructions.

EU-121. Members of the Dalkey Island Contest Group plan to activate Clare Island
for the upcoming RSGB IOTA Contest which takes place on July 25-26th. The
callsign EJ1DD will be used in a "100 watt DXpedition" entry. QSL information is
via EI7CC. Operators will be EI2CA, EI5DI, EI6EW, EI7CC, EI7CD, EI8BP and EI8CE.
Look for activity also from the individual operators using the EJ prefix between
July 23-27th.

EU-135. Anders, SM5EFX, will be active as SM5EFX/2 from Ledskar Island, July
19-31st. Activity will be on all HF bands/modes. He will also participate in the
RSGB IOTA Contest (July 25-26th) using the special callsign SF2X. QSL both
callsigns to SM5EFX, direct or by the bureau.

EU-146. Operators Frans/PA5CA, Jan/PA0JED, Arend/PA2AWU, Dervin/PD9DX and
Marcel/PA9M will be active as PA6Z from Schouwen Duiveland during the RSGB IOTA
Contest (July 25-26th) as a Multi-Op/ Single-Transmitter entry. QSL via PA9M,
direct or by the bureau.

EU-165. Joe, IS0MKX, will lead a team of 15 operators to activate Asinara Island
(SS-061, for Italian Island Award) between July 22-26th. Activity will include
the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 25-26th). The callsign will be IM0M. QSL via IS0MKX.

EU-175. Operators Luis/CT1EEQ, Arlindo/CT1EGW, Hermann/CT3FN/HB9CRV,
Antonio/CU8AS, Jurgen/DJ2VO and Ruedi/HB9CQL will be active as CR2F from the
Island of Faial (DIP AZ-007) between July 18-31st. Activity will be from the
Ribeirinha Lighthouse (DFP FAZ-17, ARLHS AZO-020, WLH CU-007, WLOTA 1830, WW
Loc. HM58QO), located at Cedros. They plan to be on 80-6 meters using CW, SSB
and RTTY. They plan to be active around 50.113 MHz with CR2W as callsign. The
team will also participate in the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 25-26th), using the

NA-140. Operators Steve/W3RFA and Bob/KB3NYX will be active as W3RFA from Smith
Island (USI MD-003S, Somerset County, Maryland) for the RSGB IOTA Contest (July
25-26th). This is a "Micro- DXpedition". They are getting to the island by sea
kayak. All gear will weigh less than 100 lbs ea. They will use 100 watts into a
wire antenna. QSL via their home callsigns.

SA-047. Operators Alexandre/PY5BH, Vagner/PY5DC, Fleck/PY5DJ, Fernando/ PY5FO
and Goncalves/PY5IN will be active as PR5D from Ilha do Mel (DIB PR-01, also
count for WLOTA LH-1435) during the RSGB IOTA Contest (July 25-26th). QSL via

MOBILE TOUR (Europe)
Jurij, MM0DFV, has started his 7000 km mobile tour on July 7th. He reports, "I
am taking my mobile HF gear, and will try to be active from various places as
much as possible. The route is:
GM - Scotland (MM0DFV/m) - G England (M0DFV/m) - F France (F/MM0DFV/m) - ON -
Belgium (ON/MM0DFV/m) - DL Germany (DL/MM0DFV/m) - SP Poland (SP/MM0DFV/m) - EU
Belarus (call sign is unknown yet) - UA Russia (RZ3?? = call plus various
slashes, will get the license on arrival) - UN Kazakhstan (UN/RN3FX
hopefully)... and inversely.
My radio will be a Yaesu FT-897D, Mobile Whips, Doublet and ATU MFJ-993 for
portable stops, etc. Main attention is to PSK. I will print different QSL-cards
for each new place I stop. On 10th August 2009 I plan to be back home. Please

OH0, ALAND ISLAND (CHALLENGING THE HIGH WINDS)
Martti, OH2BH, reports: "Sailing out on Thursday morning under command of
captain Jaakko, OH1TX, the group of Toshi/JA8BMK, Aki/OH1ZE and Martti/OH2BH
will be setting the sail from the coast of Finland toward waters of Aland
Islands in spite of a poor weather prediction. You can expect their activity
starting late Thursday around 1400 UTC. QSL via JA8BMK."

PX8, BRAZIL (Rare State)
Alex, PY2WAS, will be activating Amapa State (one of the 27 Brazilian States,
the rarest one) after 12 years without any DX ham activity. Amapa is located in
the estuary of the Amazona River in the Amazonic Region. Callsign will be PX8W
and activity will take place between August 1-2nd. Activity will be on
80/40/30/20/17/15/12/10 meters using CW and SSB. QSL cards must be sent via
PY2WAS, directly or by the Bureau. Please, check (QRZ.com) for more details.

VP9, BERMUDA
Kyle, WA4PGM, will once again be traveling to Bermuda between July 10-20th. He
plans to be active in the IARU, NAQP RTTY, and CQ VHF Contest. Callsign was not
mentioned, but possibly VP9/WA4PGM or a special callsign for the contests. QSL
direct to WA4PGM, please use PO Box address.

WWF ACTIVITIES
According to an official/authorized representative of WFF program in England,
Charlie, M0OXO, plans to organize a series of WFF expeditions in Britain during
July as follows:
July 10-13th - Holy Island (GFF-013); callsign GB1HI
July 21-22nd - Pembrokeshire Coast (GFF-015); callsign MW0OXO/p
July 23-27th - Ramsey Island (GWFF-072), Wales; callsigns MC0SHL/p and MW9W
