TAPR Announces HPSDR Mercury Receiver Board: High Performance Software
Defined Radio (HPSDR) is an open-source hardware and software project
designed and developed by a group of enthusiasts with representation
from interested experimenters worldwide. TAPR <http://www.tapr.org/> is
looking for a "show of interest" to determine the production run for the
new HPSDR Mercury receiver board. The assembled Mercury receiver board
uses SMT parts and is manufactured in quantity by machine. If
interested, please check out the HAMSDR Web site and log in
<http://www.hamsdr.com/>. You will find the interest page under the
<Projects><TAPR-HAMSDR> tab. Once interest has been determined, Mercury
boards may be purchased from TAPR. Mercury board specifications can be

Solar flare activity was very low all week.

Geomagnetic activity observed for the Australian Region was quiet to unsettled on 19th; and quiet otherwise.

Southern Australian Ionospheric F2 critical frequencies were near predicted on 17th, 18th, 20th, 22nd and 23rd; mostly near predicted on 19th; and near predicted on 21st, with occasional depressions to 30 per cent.

Forecast for 24th to 30th October

Solar activity should be very low.

Geomagnetic activity should see quiet to unsettled conditions.

Frequencies should be near predicted monthly values with possible mild depressions at low latitudes.

The Ohio/Penn DX Bulletin No. 880 - excerpts

6V, SENEGAL (Update)
Operators Ruediger/DK8YY, Ingolf/DL4JS, Jens-Uwe/ DL8ALU, Sigi/DL8AKI and
Frank/DL1WA will be active as 6W/DL4JS and 6V7M (during this past weekend's
Worked All Germany Contest [WAG] and CQWW DX SSB Contest [October 25-26th] as a
Multi-Single entry) between October 18-27th. Outside of the contest, look for
them to be on all HF bands using CW, SSB and RTTY. QSL via DH7WW.

6W & J5, SENEGAL AND GUINEA-BISSAU
Peter, HA3AUI, will once again be active from Africa and will also activate
again both Senegal (as 6W2SC) and Guinea-Bissau (as J5UAP), between November
15th and March 31st (2009). His activity from both places will be mostly Digital
with some SSB and CW upon request. Operations will be on 160-6 meters using a
spiderbeam, verticals, dipoles, and 500w (in 6W) or 100w (in J5). QSL via
HA3AUI, direct or by the HA Bureau.

6Y, JAMAICA
Francesco, IZ7KHR, will be active as one of the members of the 6Y1V super
station team (see OPDX.878) during the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October 25-26th),
from Hopewell, Jamaica (NA-097, WLOTA LH-0214). Outside of the contest (between
October 20-28th) look for him to sign as 6Y7K. Activity will be on all bands and

CARIBBEAN TOUR
Operators Mek/SP7VC, Tadeusz/SP3IPB and Aga/SQ3WN (YL) will be sailing
throughout the Caribbean between October 17th and November 15th. They will be
sailing on a 40 foot yacht, and they plan on visiting some DXCC entities. This
is a tourist trip, but they intend to be active on the HAM bands from various
places. They will start at the British Virgin Island (as VP2V/homecall). There
they plan to participate in the CQWW DX SSB Contest from VP2V-land on all bands.
On October 27th, they will then start to travel beginning with Anguilla (VP2E),
then Saba (PJ5), Saint Martin (FS), St.Marteen (PJ7), St. Eustatius (PJ6), Saint
Barthelemy (FJ), St. Kitts & Nevis (V4), Antigua (V2), Montserrat (VP2M),
Guadeloupe (FG), Dominica (J7) and Martinique (FM). However, they will not
operate from VP2E or V4, but they plan to activate the other places on the HF
bands if it's at all possible. The team will be using TS-50, IC-706 MKIIG, PA -
MLA 1200 (700W), vertical R-7 (40-10m), inverted L (160-80m). QSL via their home
callsigns.

EA8, CANARY ISLANDS (AF-004)
Operators Jean/ON5JV and Georgette/ON6AK will be active as EA8/homecall from
Tijoco Bajo, Tenerife Island (S-012 for the Spanish Islands Award, WLOTA
LH-1276), between November 22nd and February 3rd (2009). Activity will be mainly
on 20 and 40 meters during their evenings. QSL via their home callsigns, bureau
is preferred.

GW, WALES
Members of the Strumble Head DX and Contest Group will be active using the
club's callsign MC0SHL between October 22-28th. Activity will be on 80-10
meters. During the CQWW DX SSB Contest, they will be using the club's contest
callsign MW9W and be a Multi/Multi entry. The team consists of Ant/MW0JZE,
Rob/MW0RLJ, Tim/M0URX, Charles/M0OXO, Oli/ MW3SDO, Villiam/OM0AAO, Chris/G1VDP
and possibly one more guest operator over the contest weekend who has yet to

IOTA NEWS

EU-169. (UPDATE) Operators Alfredo/IK7JWX, Nicola/I0SNY, Pino/I8YGZ,
Leopoldo/I8LWL and Oscar/IK2AQZ will be active from Sazan Island (MIA MA-001) as
ZA0/homecall between October 23-29th. The group plans on being in the CQWW DX CW

EU-170. Operators Mike/DL3VTA and Wolfgang/DL1DVP are to be active as
9A/homecall from Pag Island (ACIA IC-188, CIA-32, IOCA CI-082, WLOTA LH-1796)
from October 20-27th. Activity will be on all HF bands using CW, SSB, RTTY and
PSK. QSL via their home callsigns, direct or by the bureau.

IY, ITALY (Marconi Special Event)
Look for special event station IY1EY to be active between November 1-9th.
Activity is to celebrate Gugliemo Marconi's experiments between the years
1919-1936 from his yacht called "Elettra". Expect operations on all bands using
CW, SSB, RTTY and PSK31. For a special QSL card, QSL via IK1QBT.

KP2, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS
Operators John/K3CT, Ed/K3VA and John/K3TEJ will be active as KP2/K3CT, KP2/K3VA
and KP2/K3TEJ, respectively, between November 25th and December 3d. Activity
will include the CQWW DX CW Contest (November 29-30th) as a Multi-2 entry using
the callsign KP2M. Outside of the contest activity will have an emphasis on 160m
and 30/17/12 meter bands. QSL KP2M via AI4U. QSL their KP2/homecall to their
home addresses.

SILENT KEY
It has been reported that the long-time QSL Manager of the ARI Italian QSL
Bureau, Paolo Cortese, I2UIY, became a Silent Key (SK) as of October 12th at the
age of 48. He also held the USA callsign NH7DX. OPDX and its readers would like
to send out our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of I2UIY.

TK, CORSICA
Salvatore, IK8UND, will be active as TK9R during the CQWW DX SSB Contest
(October 25-26th) as a Single-Op/All-Band/High-Power entry. Look for activity on
CW and RTTY before the contest. QSL via IK8UND direct ONLY.

VK9D, WILLIS ISLAND (OC-007)
Operators continue to be active as VK9DWX until October 27th. The team has
fought hot conditions, heavy gusty winds and long enduring rainfall over the
past week. The "Rum Runner", arrived on mid-Thursday and brought the team more
supplies, their friend Dale/ VK4DMC, Bernd/DK2JW (their "tourist") and the new
rookie Rhy, ZS6DXB. Unfortunately Josh, W4WJF, left with the "Rum Runner" on the
next day. Web site states, "Rhy will be joining our effort. Josh says he has
loved working you all on the bands and has greatly enjoyed his experiences so
far. He came in mainly as a SSB operator but has made quite a few CW contacts
with you on-the-air." As this bulletin was being typed, the team has made 58,404

ZD8, ASCENSION ISLAND (AF-003)
Steve, G3ZVW, will be active again as ZD8N from January 12-27th (2009). Activity
will be mainly on 30-10 meters using only 100 watts to dipoles. He will be
mainly active during his evenings and the weekends using CW, SSB and RTTY. QSL

ZS8, MARION ISLANDS

ARLD044 DX news for 23rd October 2008 – excerpts

PAPUA NEW GUINEA, P2. A group of operators are QRV as P29NI until
November 3 from Garove and Hermit islands, IOTA OC-181 and OC-041,
respectively. There are two QSL routes, depending on island.
Activity is on all bands. QSL OC-181 via SM6CVX and OC-041 via
G3KHZ.

GREECE, SV. Operators HA6NL, HA5OV, HA6PS, HA7JJS and HA7PL are QRV
as J48NL, J48OV, J48PS, J48JJ and J48P, respectively, from Thassos
Island, IOTA EU-174, until November 8. They will be QRV as J48RT as
a Multi/Single entry in the CQ WW SSB contest and the upcoming
HA-QRP Activity week. Activity is on all bands, including some
Satellite work as well. QSL to home calls. QSL contest call via
HA6NL.

CAMBODIA, XU. Retu, OH4MDY is QRV as XU7MDY until November 8.
Activity is on 160 to 10 meters using CW. QSL direct to home call.

ALBANIA, ZA. Operators Alfredo, IK7JWX, Nicola, I0SNY, Pino,
